   Hi,

   My Hummy crashed a couple of hours ago whilst I was watching a recording from last night.
   Now it won't stay up long enough for me to be able to do very much with it.
   It is running:
   Custom Firmware 2.22
   Software version FHTCP 1.03.12
   Loader Version a7.30
   I tried a reset to default but it crashed during the channel search and then again during the setup wizard.
   I've unplugged everything except the wi-fi dongle connector (Ethernet cable socket stopped working a while back) and although I can view recordings it crashes again after a short while.
   I tried connecting via putty to start it up in maintenance mode and can do this. I tried to run Check and repair hard disk and this is what it did:

   Rebooted the box and tried a channel search and it 'crashed' at 18%
   Does this mean anything to anyone? Oh, I've had the box for 4 + years I think.

   Also disconnected the HDD. The unit still crashes after approx. 5 mins.

   Why are you asking here rather than the website where you got the custom firmware from?

   When you say unplugged everything, do you mean everything - aerial, lan etc.

   If not try a factory reset with only power and tv connected, nothing else, when it starts channel search switch off reconnect aerial and switch on to continue.

   Should that not be successful then I would try reloading firmware as a next step.

   I'm desperate so asking as many people as possible for info.
   Yes Barry, I tried with everything except power plugged in. I was able to reload the firmware but still no dice. The box stays up and responsive now for approx. a couple of minutes only.
   Also there is a kind of beep sound sometimes when it crashes.
   I doubt it's a HDD issue as it's still unplugged so reformatting it wouldn't fix it. What do you guys think?
   One other thing I've noticed since yesterday is that when it crashes and I switch it off from the back, sometimes when I switch it back on, nothing happens - i.e. no power to the unit. Could this indicate a faulty power unit that causes the box to crash maybe?

   I am sorry for your woes. You are obviously trying very hard to get things sorted. I have been following you over at Hummy.tv

   You appear to be doing everything right, but it really does sound like a hardware problem.

   It could be a PSU issue, I have had PC power supplies go like that. Start to power up then fail.

   Silly question, but do you have access to another unit you could perhaps temporarily swap-out the PSU?

   Sorry I am not much help.

   Thanks, but I don't have access to another unit.

   Thanks to everyone that offered suggestions but I think I have to accept that it's dead. It won't even stay up now for more than a minute or two.

   Given that the HDD is disconnected I doubt that reformatting it would resolve this issue so I won't bother. I'll hopefully be able to rescue the SD recordings I have on there.

   If anyone can recommend a cable or dock to use with the HDD to copy off the files that would be great.

   Luckily I have my old 9200T that has been brought out of the loft.
   You certainly notice the diff between hdmi and scart

   Have you decrypted the SD recordings, either by copying them to a USB drive using the remote control and then copying them back to the internal drive, or by other methods? If not, there is no point trying to copy them now as they will be encrypted and only playable on the original HDR-FOX.

    Only if they already been decrypted.

    You can use a USB to SATA adapter (for a 3.5" drive) eg Link to eBay which includes a power supply or any USB enclosure designed for a 3.5" SATA drive
