I purchased a Humax VAHD-5300 in Switzerland while on holiday there recently. This was to replace the damaged digibox that I normally use in my caravan. I am unable to receive the Astra satellites using this box. I have purchased a new LNB, Dish and Lead. Is the VAHD-5300 suitable or do I have other problems. I am now back in the U.K and still unable to receive Astra satellites. I have emailed the Humax company in Germany, they referred me to Humax U.K, who referred me to Humax Germany

Update to my problem. After several emails to Germany who referred me to the U.K who referred me to Germany I telephoned Humax U.K and spoke to their support dept. I was told that Humax U.K have no knowledge of a VAHD-5300 and cannot offer me any support. Tough. I considered advertising the box on Ebay. Because it doesn't work correctly I would have to tell prospective purchasers this and consequently get little or no interest in a sale. Only one thing for it........the bin. And there it went. Cut my losses, move on with my life, put it down to experience etc, etc. Driving past a row of local shops I saw 'Satman' specialist in all things satellite. I called in and explained my problem. Returned the following day with the VAHD-5300. 'Satman' was familiar with my problem. Installed updated software from the Internet via computer and usb port. Downloaded update via satellite dish and BINGO. THE VAHD-5300 NOW WORKS PERFECTLY. Cost £20. Why could't Humax have told me to do this. Last Humax product I'll be purchasing.

I may add a comment to Starshipdown's posts. I live just outside Geneva, Switzerland, and, when my old satellite receiver gave up the ghost, I made a quick purchase of a VAHD-5300S to replace it. It evidently is a special model for Switzerland, to take a Swiss Viacess card so that the encrypted Swiss stations can be seen. I am shaded by a nearby mountain, so the terrestrial digital TV broadcasts do not work well. Evidently, the VAHD-5300S comes with a list of channels which do not include the U.K. channels. It seems that a scann only looks for channels in this list. You can download a list of channels fron various sources, but they have the same problem. The solution is simple: manually add the tansponders on Astra 1N, which are listed on the web on sites sych as LyngSat. Then they work perfrctly. None of this is clearly stated in the manual, and evidently, as Starshipdown noted, the Humax offices don't talk to one another. After you have installed the additional transponders (and rearranged the order, if you want), you can download this channel list to a USB stick, so you can recover it when needed. I assume this is what 'Satman' had done when he ran into the problem earlier, so he had a list on hand. He probably did not load new software. My box has version 1.04, and that is the latest I find on the web.
Not only is Humax's manual incomplete, but they do not provide a program so that you can edit the .xml ccannel list file on your laptop (as far as I know). If anyone knows where to find such a program, I would welcome it.

I have the Humax VAHD-5300s attached to my Sky dish here in Aargau.
I can get all the uk channels, but The guide will only show me 2 hours at a time.
I was very interested in your comment Joseph about the transponder, But I am unsure about frequency etc, can you help?

How do you download the the channel list.? Is that also from LyngSat

Your help would be much appreciated..

As I remember, I got the transponders, frequencies, etc., from LyngSat (http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-1N.html and http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2F.html). The non-Sky UK channels are on Astra 1N abd 2F. There is a channel list at http://www.belsat.ch/Fachhandel/Daten+PDF/HUMAX-Empf%C3%A4nger/HUMAX-Empf%C3%A4nger.htm. I have not looked at the August one now posted, but used an earier one from February, which did not contain the uk channels. The software version 1.04 (which was on the HumaxHD5300s wheen I bought it) can also be downloaded from this site.
I have not looked at the ik channels recently, but I would not be surprised if the program guide ddoes not work properly, since I think they use a somewhat different system.
