What does the wifi dongle do, is it worth buying?

I know the dongle will connect to my router via wifi, but i have no need for that as there is already cable in place to go from back off tv to the router directly, so what else will the wifi dongle give me, will I be able to play something on the 1000S and have it played out on my Samsung TV in the bedroom (which has it's own wifi dongle) or is it just for gaining access to the router?

It will only gain you another (but useless) route to the router and possibly increase the power consumption of the HDR-1000S.
