I pulled out the aerial lead from my Humax Aura and the socket came away with it. From what I’ve seen it will need a box unsoldered from the motherboard and a new box with a working socket installed. This is beyond me.
Im trying to decide whether it is worth finding somewhere to repair it: small as the problem appears it could well be beyond economic repair.
Can anyone give me any clues as to what it could well cost as most places either do not carry out repairs anymore or want you to pay upfront for an investigation and will not give an estimate as the counter staff have no real experience.

I am now an ex-Aura user.
Currys advised me they no longer repair Freeview boxes. A local shop said that the unit was beyond economic repair and using their logic I would have to agree with them. The cost effective repair would require a component being de-soldered from the motherboard and a replacement being soldered back on. The shop’s approach would be to replace the motherboard as applying heat in the vicinity could well damage other components mounted on the motherboard.
If you open an Aura it is basically a motherboard as everything is connected to it. The only removable item is the hard drive.
If I could find someone to undertake the cheaper repair route it would still be risky and still leave me with a now surplus repaired box whose value would very likely be less than what I would have to pay.
The Manhattan is much more limited in terms of capability* but I have it, it seems to perform the basic tasks well enough, and it does offer the likelihood of continued support to improve its functionality. Buying another Aura was much more expensive and I can manage without the “extras”.*no app for remote control, no usb/ network connection to stored files, catch-up limited to the four main broadcasters, two channel recording only…..
The absence of an app is probably the most troubling. (The Arris Freesat box is similarly inflicted).| Fri 28 Mar 2025 16:39:15 #2 |
