My set top box of two years has been slowing down in response over the last few days and sometimes now fails altogether (times out).

I've tried the turn off and back on agaain, over night.

It wont let me select new installation to do a factory reset.

The remote failed a few weeks ago, I've replaced it and the batteries, that was working fine.

    Don't know what to do?

    Welcome to our Forum

You have not told us which PVR so I'll hazard a guess that your unit is a HDR 2000T?

Confused by your post, does your unit actually respond to the remote control at all, ie can you access guide, or menu for instance?

    Yes, its an HDR 2000T

The remote works, but the box takes ages to respond.

I can select "menu" or "media", then have to wait ages before I can select "settings", then wait ages again.

Selecting channels, I can only now watch channels of a single number as once I select a 1 or a 3, thats all I can input.

You may need to be patient with me, Im not a techno whiz only now working out that the remote and the box are named differently!

dim rather then bright is normally an indication that the unit is in playback mode or recording.

You stated you have turned it off and on again, is that at the mains or just into standby - if standby trying switching off at mains for 15 minutes then on again, see if you can access installation then.

Failing that, the only other option is to try uploading software, see:

For link to software and instructions.

Unit was recording, "Instillation" back up to bright white.
I've got as far as "Edit Cghannles", one more pause and i might get onto "installastion"

    Patience is a virtue

You have not moved anything such as a wireless router closer to the unit have you, or anything else that could be interfering with the IR signal.

Edit as you posted #7 and #8 whilst I was drafting this...

If you have 1.01.16 still might be worth a factory reset.

    Haven't changed anything anytime recently.

I've also tried turning everything near it off to no avail.

Just got as far as entering the pin for installation but was timed out. Deep breathing exercises ongoing
