    Hi,

Apologies if these issues have been answered before, I have done some searching but I am unable to find any answers so far.

I received and set up my Humax 1010S box today and unfortunately I have only been able to connect it to my wifi by turning off the security. My network name and key are not overly long and the broadcast SSID option is ticked. It was set to WPA2-PSK [AES] but when trying to connect I just had an error on the screen saying 'something seems to be wrong'. Can anyone tell me please how I can get it to work with my wifi as I do not want to leave it without any security and I cannot connect through an ethernet cable.

Also I only seem to have access to ITV player and BBC iPlayer, nothing else. Can anyone help here please?

Does you key include special characters (inclusive of spaces). If so, try changing your key.

The access to on-demand services - do you base that upon the network connected message or the services offered on the HGome > on-demand menu.
Do you have the latest software? Check via settings.

    Hi,

OK, my old wifi password was 14 alphanumeric characters, I changed this to 8 and tried again but now after entering the new password I just see connecting (I left it for 15 mins and then gave up and powered off). I took off the security again on my wifi and started up the Humax again and it connected immediately to the network.

One positive of all this on and offing is that I now have all the ondemand channels, so this is all ok now.

As I said before I really don't want to be running an unsecured network. I have a Netgear R7000 router which was running with the factory settings until today when I changed the security options and password.

    Thanks for your help.

If it helps, I have these selections under my security options on my router page, I was using the 2nd WPA2-PSK [AES]:

    None
    WPA2-PSK [AES]
    WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
    WPA/WPA2 Enterprise

I assume when it does work on 'none' you can watch iplayer with no problems, no delays, no glitches etc.

If it were mine, I'd set the router password to something really easy like 01234567 or QWERTYUI wpa2-psk (aes) and reboot the router, wait a couple of minutes for it to sync and come back up again.
set the same password on the Humax and switch it off, power it down properly i.e. disconnected from mains for 10 seconds or so, start back up again and if it's hanging on 'connecting' for more than a couple of minutes power it back down again. Change the router to (tkip), power the Humax back up again and recheck. If you do get it to work then work backwards putting a better password etc. in place

There are a few things that can cause problems and you are doing the right things. I can only think of location, i.e. signal just too poor where it is, your phone/tablet should be able to display router signal signal strength around the Humaxm alternatively if you can tether/wifi-hotspot test the Humax against that, testing purposes only confirming Humax's ability for WiFi. It's also possible that the Humax needs a clean proper reboot on wifi changes, i.e. removal of power.

If you can't get it to work at all, then I'd recommend home plugs over wifi any day, you can get a pair of 500mbps for around £20 these days and they're much better than wifi imho

let us know how you get on and hopefully what worked.

    Hi Damian,

A couple of questions on your post please.

When you say 'set the same password on the Humax and switch it off' is there somewhere else I can enter my wifi password in addition to the screen after selecting which network to connect to? This is place I am entering it at the moment, and here once you enter the password and press continue then it just says connecting. If I turned it off at this point I don't think it would have saved anything?

When I am connected with 'None' the connection is perfect, 128mbps and no issues using ondemand. I did try changing to TKIP on my router settings but again this did not work (connecting indefinitely) and it gave me an information message on my router settings page that the max I could connect this way was 56mbps. My password is 4 letters and 4 numbers, so you can't really make it more simple than that.

If I can't find the solution I will go down the homeplug route but it is frustrating to have to spend more money when I specifically purchased it as it could connect via wifi and that it will work with no security!

Thanks for your advice, I will spend some time this weekend powering the Humax off completely and swapping around some of the router security settings.

Did you try WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]?

When you say 'set the same password on the Humax and switch it off' is there somewhere else I can enter my wifi password

Hi, sorry jumped the gun with switching it off and missed a bit, obviously after rebooting the router enter the password on the Humax after the router has had time to sync properly, see if it connects, if not then power cycle the Humax.
Whether the Humax retains the password or not without establishihg a connection, I don't know however; it'll become pretty obvious after the reboot. The important thing here is the power cycle on the Humax, a proper reboot which should completely reset the state of the Humax wifi adapter in the box.

We don't have access to the operating system so there's no other place to fix the password except via the gui/screen.

Clutching at straws now, you may want to change the SSID on the router and reboot, worth a punt. Also worth checking, after checking for latest router firmware, is a factory default reset on the router however; make sure you have all the necessary logon/connection details for your ISP, some pick it up automatically others require manual input.

Try the simple things first and testing each time, rebooting the Humax properly, factory resetting the Humax without format - take a note of your schedule, factory resetting the router. My router shows other networks and which channel they're on, e.g. presently 6 others on channel 1 available where I live and on my router I can change the channel to an empty, less congested, one.

Unless you've been tweaking lots of different things in the past, I'm guessing a simple power-cycle/reboot on the Humax will solve it, if not location which is where devices such as phones, tablets and some laptops can measure router signal and also just as useful become a hotspot and if placed beside the Humax will prove whether the Humax can connect to the device and if so whether the Humax can connect when the device is in the same location as the router. If the Humax can't connect when the device is beside it then I'd suspect a faulty Humax wifi adapter.

clearly a lot of playing about needed until you get it to work, once you have; work backwards to find what breaks it. Let us know either way please as it'll help others.

The Netgear WiFi Analytics app is very good and will show all networks and suggest best free channel. I had a clash with the channel chromecast was using.

One more suggestion - I had problems yesterday with using a different USB WiFi connector. I tried several times to connect with the correct key and each time it ended with an error.
On checking the router (Netgear TL-WDR4300) settings I noticed WPS was active. Turning it off solved the problem.
Router settings: WPA/WPA2 Personal: WPA2-PSK Encryption: Automatic

Edit: Sorry to state the obvious but also check you do not have MAC filtering turned on.
