I have had this box since it came out and it has progressively got less responsive on the controller presses.

It really is getting frustrating now, half the time a button press does nothing or it crashes back the the main menu. The same with BBC Iplayer and ITVx they start then crash and after a few goes I get it to say on the screen but as soon as I try a search the remote buttons get non responsive and the app crashes again

I went through the apps and deleted all I don't use so I have loads of free space.
Is there an easy way to clean up junk files and the cache on the box without a reset? something like a Windows or Android clean up.
I'm not keen to reset it if I will lose my recordings.

If I resort to a reset, what will be lost?
Is it just the recordings and I just need to login to android again and do a new channel search?

A factory Reset does not lose your recordings.
Press the Freeview button on the remote control.
    Select Settings on screen.
    Go to Freeview Play Preferences.
Scroll all the way down to Factory Reset.
    Read what it says.

I had a similar issue with a second hand aura I bought. Perfect expect the remote became unresponsive regularly and often crashed out of apps when typing. I tried everything but nothing worked. Remote resets, box resets the lot. I noticed that when the issue happened the remote led flashed red a couple of times then back to green as if bluetooth was resetting.

What did fix it for me though was not pairing the bluetooth element of the remote. I lost voice search obviously but just using the remote as an IR remote cured all the issues.

I am unsure if it is an issue with the bluetooth on the remote or the box so am not willing to buy a new remote to test since I don't really need the voice search.

Just to add, other bluetooth devices do not cause an issue such as game controllers.

    @VitaminD & @dxbetv
Thanks both I will go with your suggestions starting with the reset them moving onto the remote if needed.
Its so bad I can't even complete a channel search now because half way through the saving when I'm trying to choose my region with the remote it just crashes.

I have to get the channel search working as I am experiencing the ITV issues (blank recording or double recording that wont play) when recording as in other threads.

Just to update, the reset appears to have fixed things. The "Apps" screen look completely different now for some reason, I'm sure it was full screen before, now its a 3/4 screen that slides in from the right with live tv playing in the background on the remaining 1/3 of the screen.
EDIT: Going into the Play Store and updating all the apps put this back to how I remember it.

And all my recordings are safe as @VitaminD advised they would, thank you.

With the Bluetooth paired it did not appear to crash anything but I do get non responsive presses if I'm too far away from the TV, so I unpaired it anyway because, like you @dxbetv I don't need it, I don't think it was paired before, I think I unpaired it a long time ago due to the Bluetooth unreliability.

Thank you both for your advice.
