Have had how Humax box for a couple of years now but all of sudden, the remote control has started not working intermittently. Have replaced the batteries and checked for a software update. There are no buttons stuck down. Remote is emitting an infrared signal and there seems to be no rhyme or reason re when functions don't work. Last software update was 7 Feb 2014. It will work every few minutes and then just the red light flashes on the PVR button whatever button I press. Nothing on the PVR remote then works (just flashing red light)for anything from 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes and then all ok again for about another 3-4 functions before it stops working again. So very frustrating - please help!

there are a number of things to try...

power cycle the box, i.e. physically switch it off from the mains

if that doesn't help, take a note of the schedule (camera phone is useful here) and factory reset the box, don't format, you won't lose recordings

if that doesn't help try another brand new set of batteries, sometimes new batteries that have been hanging around for a while aren't up to the job and just because they may work in another remote doesn't mean they'll work properly in a different remote. Remember to press a button for a few seconds on the remote with the batteries removed to discharge any power left in the remote from the old batteries.

if that doesn't help, remove every other remote from the room

if that doesn't help, think about what was changed recently in the room, new light bulbs, anything moved/added

if you know somebody else, a neighbour or friend that also has the same box, swap the remotes around.

The fact that the remote operates (flashes) for 2-3 mins would indicate a problem with the remote, has anything been spilled on it recently or has it been dropped. Again a camera phone or similar is very useful here to see if the remote is sending a signal and for how long, with the camera function switched on, point the remote at the phone and press a button, you should be able to see the remote signal on the phone flashing as you press a remote button, if the remote sends a signal for longer than the press or just seems to be on constantly then it's clear the remote is the problem, taking it apart and cleaning it may be a solution in this case.

It should be fairly easy to figure out where the problem lies with a bit of detective work.
