It looks like everyone's having the opposite experience to me - the previous Nov 2014 firmware started crashing my box extremely frequently, so I rolled back to a beta firmware from 2.5 years (!) ago and that stabilised it. Had to keep the box permanently on (no standby) to stop the firmware OTA-upgrading though - *very* annoying you can't turn off auto-updates.

Did a manual OTA upgrade as a test this week and the new May 2015 firmware has actually stabilised my box now. I noticed that there's sometimes a UI freeze immediately coming out of standby if you go into the TV Guide and it isn't populated but if you wait a few mins it eventually unfreezes.

The red button option to go into digital teletext now seems to go to the "textual" teletext rather than the video-based one, which I prefer (the textual one that is) - is this what "red button +" means?

I'm surprised everyone hasn't put black insulating tape over their HDR 1000S front panel display like I have - the scrolling text on the front panel whilst watching something is *massively* distracting and a huge UI error in my books. Hence the black tape - I never see the (tiny) icons regardless of the firmware version

One thing I still don't have on the latest firmware is access to On Demand or Showcase (or Humax -> TV Portal) either via the UI or the appropriate channel number. Yes, the network connection is definitely up and working (using a network scanner, I can see its IP/MAC address and the network connection page confirms the connection is up).

Looks like I've been lucky as I've not had any reboots (yet!), just the loss of the icons. The 3rd party Floureon adapter is still working ok too.

Hi all, the only problem I had after the latest software update was the loss of the icons on the front of the unit. I contacted Humax about this as I do check on the recording icon when the unit is in standby although it is small it is a pointer to tell if the programme is recording. The response I got from Humax was they knew of this but unfortunately there is no fix for this. Sorry but I think this is wrong no matter how small the icons are.

The loss of the (Dolby, playback, resolution) icons are annoying, but the loss of the recording icon is something else entirely.

You could just give the box a cursory glance & that was it!

The front display icon would tell you immediately whether the box is (or isn't) recording a programme (more importantly in standby) without going through the rigmarole of booting up connected equipment then navigating to the "Recordings" menu as a check.

If the loss of the icons are an unwanted side-effect of the update, it can more than likely be fixed but if it's a "feature improvement" it's a retrospective one, and seems counter-intuitive to lose this facility IMO...

Yeah the recording indicator is what I have an issue with. Its not too much of a problem at the minute as there isn't much on the planner, but when it starts to fill up and there are a few recordings being made in an evening, its handy to see if something is recording at a glance, that way you know you have to be careful with the channel changes in case something else starts recording as well.

I've already had one issue with the unit recording a programme that I didnt realise it was recording, and I've been browsing through the channels, and a box came up informing me that another recording was due to start and did I want to cancel the recording or record it. I chose the record option but it still didn't record the programme.

I don't see the point of the clock/timer icon though - If you have something on a long running series link like eastenders or coronation street, the light is permanently on. May perhaps be better if it worked on a day by day basis and came on if you had outstanding recordings for that day.

Strange how there is no fix for something that has worked fine in the past - If it was a feature that had never worked then fair enough. Sounds like a bit of a cop out to me.

I seem to remember my box restarting itself when I first purchased the unit and setting the Automatic Power down to off in the power saving settings sorted out the issue then. The update seems to have set this back to on, so I have set this back to off and will see if that makes a difference.

like others I reluctantly did a factory reset and that did not cure the issue.

It would have been the factory reset that set the Automatic power down to On.

Very possible... However the unit has been on all day and as yet has not restarted since changing the setting... But there is plenty of time yet to blow this theory out of the water

Woodroff2...... Totally agree, there are a number of cheaper units out there with no recording in progress icon, I have also got the 9150 freeview recorder which has the icon & this was a good point for me on the HDR1000 unit.
