Cheers. Ordered a Ralink RT3070 off eBay.

    According to post at

RT3070 is among those affected by the June 15th update.

But presumably okay while using the previous version. It seems a little uncertain what's going to work in the future, once Freesat/Humax have got it together to issue a new, debugged release.

Does this model support anything other than RT3070 dongles? The drivers are preinstalled and have to be loaded into the kernel, so support is limited to certain chipsets. The standard Humax dongle (150 Mbps) is RT3070 based and is supported on any Humax unit that can use a USB dongle. The latest official Humax dongle (300 Mbps) uses the Ralink RT5572 chipset and is now supported additionally on the HDR-1800T and HDR-2000T freeview models. I don't know if the current freesat models support the new dongle yet.
As I indicated in post #249, I think the problem is with the vendor and product IDs. If anyone has the affected freesat model, and is in possession of a Tenda 311U+ dongle, could they test the combination? I don't have a freesat box so I can't try this myself. The Tenda has the same VID and PID values (148f/ 3070) and chipset as the Humax (150 Mbps, RT3070) dongle and if I am right, it will work.

    A review on Amazon says:

Works great but not compatible with HUMAX 1000S FREESAT box as it worked fine at first then the box started freezing on startup, had to pull the cord out a few times so box would work. But it kept freezing when turning on, then eventually after some googling worked out the box does not like usbs attached. Removed this and the box has not frozen since.
So great item does what it says on the tin but don't try to use with HUMAX 1000S FREESAT box.

Dated 29 June 2015. Sounds like it worked until the update, then not.

The review doesn't mention whether or not the dongle works, just that the box kept freezing. Those symptoms sound common with the new update. It would be good to have firm information as to whether this dongle does or doesn't work with the latest software.

You may be right. I took it that the user had (wrongly) attributed effects of the update to the dongle, and had stopped using it.

Post #331(see above) confirms that a Vodafone badged RT3070 dongle still works, though the poster, launton, did have to reset and reboot the unit with the dongle disconnected: see here. Other generic dongles have also been reported as working: see here.

On digging through this thread further, the Tenda 311U+ has already been confirmed as working after the update: see here. It seems to be mainly the Edimax EW-7711 dongles that are affected.

Yep, so it has. Useful to know.

The one i linked to worked after the update as well as before but I did need to hotplug it once for it to be recognised
