    Just got my HDR1100s and can anyone tell me what the USB socket on the side is for' Can I connect a second hard drive with my own films on to watch

    Yes, subject to the films being in a suitable forma.
    Unpowered hard disks work only if they conform to standard USB2 power requirements (low power). Power drive all seem to work, subject to filing system (NTFS is OK)
    MPEG2 or H.264/MPEG-4 AVC compression standards are both good, others may work.

    Yes you can subject to the Video and audio within each file is a supported codec.
