My Virgin media contract is up for renewal very shortly and I am thinking of 2 x Aura Boxes instead and have a couple of questions
    1. I Have 2 virgin boxes one in lounge and one in the bedroom and I can watch stuff recorded on the Lounge box on the bedroom as they talk to one another and vica versa. Can you do this with the Aura boxes.
    2. In the information it says ITV Hub app. This has been replaced with ITV X. Is the Aura able to get the updated ITV X.
    Thanks
    Pete

In simple terms how do you link 2 together. I have read a previous post and it sounds complicated. On my Virgin box at the moment I go into my recordings scroll down to other boxes and it then shows what is recorded and you just choose. Both boxes are connected to my router. Is it the same with the Aura is there a setting in the Aura's menu to do this.
If I just buy one box and I am in bed upstairs is there a way to control what I watch while in bed without having to go downstairs to point the remote at the Aura. Years ago you used to be able to buy a gadget called a magic eye to do this

With two boxes you should be able to connect either via LAN or WiFi and watch the recordings on either box.
I have an Aura and a Humax 5000T and I can watch the recordings on the 5000T on the Aura, only standard definition recordings though, the HD ones are encrypted and can't be played on another box.
Download n app like VLC from the Google Play Store via the Aura Apps button, when installed open the app
Go to Browsing and scroll right to Local Network and click on the upnp icon, from there you should be able to access the folders and find your recordings.

If you only have one box downstairs in the living room you can download the Humax app to your mobile
this should then allow you to cast your recordings to another device within your house over WiFi.

Download the Humax Aura manual here,

Thank you that makes a lot of sense I think I prefer the 2 box option. When both boxes are connected by WiFi do you have to download VLC to be able to access what is recorded on the other box or is there just a simple button and menu in box 2 that allows you to pick and choose what is recorded on box 1 and vica versa. One final question as they are a lot of money, are they slowly being replaced by Freely which seems to be all streaming based with no set top boxes to record. I want to know they are not going to be discontinued before out spend £500. Thanks again I appreciate your help

Download the VLC app for both machines, it's free.

The Aura is coming up for 5 years old and Humax have not released any major update for it since August 2021,
which fixed a lot of problems the box had on first release. There are still problems as this forum will attest to.
There is supposed to be an update coming in the summer, it's been delayed a couple of times so no promises.
Humax aren't giving away too much information on that but speculation suggests it is only an update to the Android system, which if true is a shame as Humax need to pay attention to their own operating system.
My Aura which luckily seems to be better behaved than most peoples on here does have days where it
takes to rebooting itself sometimes several times, occasionally it will go for a full restart. Powering it down and
leaving for 5 minutes or more usually sorts that out.

PVRs are really in decline not many companies making them any more, Humax, Panasonic and Manhattan are the
ones that spring to mind. The newest one on the market is the Manhattan T4R which is cheaper, but stupidly they only supplied it with two tuners. PVRs are good because you can skip past the ghastly adverts, something you won't be able to do with Freely unless of course they offer subscription services without adverts.

I've looked at the Manhattan which I would of been on my list but your right 2 tuners not enough in this day and age. My gut suspicion is they are plugging Freely now with it being more streaming based and so they can get money out of you for ad free further down the line. Not every programme is on catch up hence why I want to still be able to record and also to skip adverts. I also think with streaming you are relying on a internet where as with Freeview you still have a aerial as back up.
