A lot of Western Digital's PVR type Hard Disk Drives are coming with the new Advanced Format on them. I've seen posts on WD's forums were it has caused problems with some Linux setups. Can any say if Advanced Format Hard Disk Drives are compatible with the Humax Foxsat HDR? (the drive will be a replacement for the Humax's internal drive) Thanks

I don't think you should have any issues.
AFT drives have been causing problems in two ways:
1. Some OS or disk tools have been unable to partition and format them correct or optimally.
2. Unaligned AF HDDs have been causing speed issues on operation. You just need to use the right tools (a disk utility which can create 4K aligned partitions).
The command line 'parted' utility (as opposed to the graphical GParted) can do the job, as detailed on WD's own site: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5655

Thanks son_t. The only thing is, I won't have any way of connecting the drive to a computer. I was going to use the Foxsat to format the drive.

Oh, I see... I don't think this will work then...
The HDR can only format up to 1TB and there's a report by a user that a AFT disk they installed (probably not formatted properly) did not work on the FOXSAT...
Stick with a non-AF 1TB HDD for the FOXSAT-HDR in this case.

I think your right. I'm gonna steer clear of AF drives. Thanks again.

It appears that AF drives do in fact work
