I have been asked to recommend to a friend whether to get 2 HDRs or 1 HDR and a HD with Ext drive. Both will be connected to the network via powerline (homeplugs).

Not having Humax HD products myself, I need answers to a couple of questions.

Does an HDR act as client andserver or just server?
If both can an HD with external drive act as server for an HDR?

    I have the HD- and HDR-FOX T2.

The HDR act as both server and client (affected by the 4GB limit streaming bug).

The HD can not act as a server*. The HDR can not serve recordings or media that is stored on an attached USB drive (can only serve media that is on the internal HDD).

*Must test this and confirm, though.

EDIT: Confirmed, there is no Content Share (or FTP server) option in Settings->System->Internet Setting on the HD, and it does not appear on the network.

Thanks, seems like the best bet for them is 1x 1TB and 1 x 500GB HDRs or 2 x 500GB HDRs then.
