BBC News, BBC Three, BBC Four, CBBC and CBeebies are going HD early in 2014.

What is happening with the Red Button HD service on Freeview 303 etc that was turned on for Wimbledon and Glastonbury? Is that staying until further notice now?

Now reading that CBBC/BBC3 will use existing capacity which means it will be taking over the slot currently used by Red Button HD.

This may seem a dumb question, but why do we need 'Red Button'. I never use it and just 'dial in' the channel numbers direct. I.E. 302/303 etc?

On the odd times I have tried it, its very slow and frustrating.

The Red Button offers other services as well as access to the additional broadcast streams, mainly digital "teletext". But like you I always go straight to the stream itself.
