I have a Humax 1000t. I am just wondering what the best file format to use from TS to media like DVD players. And a file format that dosent lose quality and take too much disk space. And the best free software for the conversion of the file format.

    Hi welcome to our forum.

This is a frequently misunderstood subject. Firstly .TS short for transport stream, is not a file format at all. It's a container that combines different file formats like video compression codecs (eg H264/AVC. mpeg2) and audio compression codecs (eg mpeg 1 layer 2, Dolby Digital, AAC etc).

Each container has the capability to contain various different video, audio and subtitle formats.

If the kit you are playing back to doesn't recognise the container (unusual these days for transport stream) and has the capability to decode the actual contents then in some case simply changing the .ts to say .mp4 might work.

Not familiar with your specific box but our UK boxes .ts aren't in fact .ts files at all but in a slightly different container format .m2ts.

Changing the container doesn't affect the quality at all provided the actual contents are not recoded.

DVD's in the UK use mpeg2 video compression 720 x 576 25 fps and DD or PCM audio. They use a slightly different .mpg (programme stream) container, often changing the extension from .ts to .mpg will make them work.

    See here for more info

    If you still need software

    Check out TSmuxer.gui and Handbrake.

Open one of the files with

    https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

    Select View - Tree

Choose the export text option and post the results so that the contents are identified.

That looks absolutely normal. With what and how are you trying to play back the file ? Most media player software on a PC should be happy (eg VLC) or it could be burnt to a DVD blank in DVD-Video format using DVD authoring software (eg DVDFlick).
