Hi Everyone. I'm new to this so please bear with me!
I have an HDR FOX T2. I recently bought an external hdd (Samsung 1TB) and no matter how hard I try I'm having problems viewing recordings on both the Humax and my laptop (Windows 7).
The Humax formatted the hdd without a problem but the laptop didn't recognise the drive when it was plugged in so nothing could be viewed.
I tried with the NTFS format but the Humax couldn't record onto it.
I reformated the hdd in FAT 32 (using EASUS Partition). I could record from the Humax onto this and it could be played on the laptop. However, when I then tried to record another programme from the Humax I clicked on the Move/Copy button on the Humax and after a couple of seconds the Humax turned itself off (tried this a lot and the same thing happened.
I reformatted again using Ext3 again using EASUS Partition. This took about 20 minutes. However, the laptop now doesn't recognise the hdd when its plugged in but it does appear in devices but will not open.
Surely there must be some way of getting this to work?
I have used a USB stick which is FAT32 and this is no problem at all!
Many thanks in advance.

Windows needs a driver to work with EXT3. FAT32 works but has a max file size of 4GB.
Driver available here
http://www.ext2fsd.com/?page_id=16
Note on install the application is set to read only. If you want to copy content to the disk using windows you have to enable write operations.

Many thanks for that and the quick response. I'll look into it.
