Are you sure you aren't thinking of a different box (Freetime perhaps) , mine is identical to yours ? You may be right as I normally use the custom firmware to set recordings and view the epg.

Hi Les,
There seems to have been a change made by Freesat in that the genre list has been removed.
Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

This issue can arise when the channel settings are changed on FreeSat itself. If the information on the EPG does not match the satellite information, then things are not displayed. The best solution is to ensure you turn off the receiver overnight and it will automatically scan FreeSat for channel changes and update its databases.
The second cause can be if the EPG is not updated. For this you have to leave EPG until it completes a full scan.
Again if you leave overnight the EPG will be updated.
Details on the Humax FreeSat Custom Freeware are available on this site. Note the custom firmware does not change the screen interface, rather it adds an extremely rich network interface that includes web, ftp, file access; the interface providing many extra features not available through the screen interface, along with the convenience of managing the Humax with a network device of your choice. Also beware that the Humax has only a wired connection, so you will need to site close to a suitable network box or obtain a convertor.| Tue 2 Aug 2016 12:54:15 #7 | -

Display the epg by pressing the schedule button followed by red. It avoids the delay from downloading a new epg from the home transponder.
