Not sure which section to put this in but have been having issues with my PVR for most of it's 2+ year life. Now, after a couple of weeks of needing to turn it off and on again to make it come on it won't start at all although light on the front panel is lit. This seems similar to when the hard drive on my PC gave up.
I'm not sure whether to just ditch it and never buy Humax again or if it's worth trying something else...

Thanks for the welcome. I used to have a Topfield PVR which lasted many years so I'm a bit miffed with the Humax.
Perhaps I didn't make myself clear... no amount of pressing the light button on the front or using the remote will induce the box to come on so I can't access anything in order to do a reset.

    One last suggestion...

Touch and keep touching the power button on the front of the unit for at least 10 seconds, this should initiate a restart procedure on the unit.

Well, this is embarrassing. After a week of trying to make it work I had turned everything off and unplugged all connections. I had already tried your suggestions but thought I would give it one more go. This time it was obviously trying to do something but couldn't quite manage it until after 3 more turns off and on again when suddenly it started downloading some software.
It seems to be working fine now and all my recordings are there but I can't believe it's going to be ok now after months of trouble. Should I attempt a Maintenance Mode Reset while I have the chance and lose all my recordings or wait and see...
    Anyway, thanks for your input.

Not all the resets delete the recordings.

Barry's alternative description of how to access the different maintenance mode resets on the T1010 can be found at

Capacitors on the mainboard fail on this model. I have repaired a few of them. Unfortunately, Humax use the same poor quality Sam Young capacitors that were used in early Topfields.

This device runs quite hot, and there seems to be a question about whether the temperature-controlled fan ever comes on. I have experimented with rewiring the fan between HDD supply 12V and 5V which means it runs constantly at 7V where it is virtually silent. I've yet to do a long term test to see if it extends the life of the machine, but I'm confident that it will help.

I have had an issue with our DTR T1010 box that started a couple of months out of warranty. The box had a software update and afterwards was intermittently difficult to power on - after 50-100 or so attempts it finally did power on. Then one day it started working perfectly again, this only lasted two months or so.

Another software update was available, this was installed and the unit went back to being difficult to power on and now refuses to power on at all.

Both times the unit became difficult to power on was after a software update - which I do not think is acceptable as the box is now useless. I have electronic products from loads of manufacturers but this Humax box has always been buggy & intermittent. Very disappointing.

The customer support is shocking and Humax have recommended that I just buy another one! Apparently you cant even buy extended warranties with their products which is very concerning....

I like the user interface of the DTR T1010 but there is no way im buying another of their products!

Is it possible to try and fix a powering on issue? What would happen if you replaced the touch sensor switch with a physical switch? I have nothing to loose buy attempting something.
