One of the reasons I bought my Foxsat was to make it easy (or so I thought) to edit recorded programs on my Mac.

I'm successfully able to transfer the .ts file to my Mac and it plays fine with VLC.

After some researching I believed the answer was to use a program called MPEG Streamclip with Apples Quicktime MPEG-2 Playback Component installed (cost £15 ). However when trying to import the .ts file from the Humax I get a "File open error: unsupported file type" error and can get no further.

So my question is has anyone managed to edit a 'ts file from a Foxsat HDR on a Mac and if so, how?

I've used a product called ProjectX which has worked well for my old 9200T ts files. Its not very intuitive, but it will separate all the streams from the ts file and store each as a separate file. You can then load the video and audio streams separately into your editor, or use ProjectX to re-merge those streams into a single mpeg that you can then edit.

    There are three possible problems:

    1) ProjectX is written in java, so it may work on a Mac with a bit of tweaking.
    2) I haven't tried ProjectX with a Foxsat ts stream.
    3) It doesnt work for HD streams.

You can edit the Foxsat's files on the Mac.
    I use this workflow http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1329082
Just disregard points (3) and (4).

It's not very 'mac' though. It's all open source software. But what I like about it is the video isn't re-encoded. So the quality is exactly as it was broadcast.

It only works with the SD streams.

    Tip for editing in Avidemux:
Once you have saved the file as an MPEG-PS close the current verison you have open [Cmd+W]and then reload the saved version to start editing it.

And when editing you have to cut on a specific type of frame. To do that, set your edit point and then use the arrow buttons [in the image below] to jump to the nearest frame that you can cut on.
