ethernet cable

    morning all
    i hope to have a ethernet cable from my router to my box by tommorow my question is do i have to go in to any settings on the box and set them to recognise that the cable is there or will it pick it up any help with this would be great as i have no idea about setting it up this is so i can watch bbc and itv i player

    I presume that like most routers a DHCP server is enabled on the router by default. If so all you will need to do is reboot,

    Assuming your router has DHCP enabled it's automatic. After connecting check Menu/System/Network. You should see entries for IP address etc.

    If not Choose configure internet and make sure configure IP is set to DHCP.

    DHCP is the protocol that the router uses to allocate local IP addresses to devices. I would be very surprised if any router did not support DHCP. If you log into the routers control panel and look around you should find a reference to DHCP; alternatively tell us the make and model of router.
