Hi I have just bought a 1TB External hard drive WD 3.0 USB
Its not powered.
Can I use it on the Humax HDR 2000t by using the rear USB connection.
If this is possible will I be able to Record to the Hard drive.
Or downloading the content from the Humax HDR 2000t to free up space and then play from the external drive.

You cannot record directly to the external HDD but certainly can copy off content already recorded and then playback.

Is the USB Port sufficient for a powering the external drive during copying and playing from.
Or should I have purchased a Hard Drive with its own power sauce.
Try it and see. You won't do any damage, the port will be current limited so you can't draw more current than it's designed to cope with.
If it's any guide the front USB port on the HDR FOX T2 will power a WD 500GB USB 3.0 hard drive.

I have a 1 TB WD passport usb 3.0 attached to rear usb on a 2000T, no problems so far.

So far I have a copying star revolving.
There is almost a full 500GB HD to copy from and its still on the first file after an hour.
I ticked all programs to copy over.
I estimate 12 hours of recording on that first file so I reckon it will take some time.
When plugging in the HD there was no mention of doing a format.
I have red a great deal on the Humax and most people Talk about formatting the drive.
Transfer is not quick for sure.
Your ext HDD was probably already formatted as ntfs which the HDR 2000T can write to (earlier Humax units could only read ntfs not write to)

There is almost a full 500GB HD to copy from and its still on the first file after an hour.
On a FAT32 or EXT3 drive the SD recordings will copy over at about 1GB every 5 minutes. The HD recordings will copy at over 4gb every 5 minutes.
The difference in speed is that the SD programmes will be decrypted on the fly as they are copied over.
My understanding is that a NTFS drive takes even longer.
This means that depending on the SD/HD mix that 5000GB will take at least 10 hours and possibly over 40 hours.
If you have any recordings going on durng the copy, or watch any recordings, this will slow down the copying slightly.
My experience with the HDR-2000T is that any programmes that were recorded by pressing the record button on the remote while watching the live programme will not transfer successfully.
Hi Luke yes you are correct, its still copying this morning, only 10% has copied over in the past 16 hours without using the Humax in that time.
In percentage terms as this is what it shows the amount left on the Humax disk 17% left for recording on, so I had used 83% of the 500GB drive.
There is 73% copying time left estimated time 116 hours.
Thanks for the tip on instant record, you have answered my thoughts on auto recording a series, or if I watched a pre-recorded program.
