    Trying to utilise a S/H 500Gb, 3.5 inch HDD removed from an old Sky+ recorder as USB connected, additional storage, mounted in a USB-3 caddy using associated 12 V. PSU, not being recognised by the Humax.
    Have tried various drive formats via Win 10 and Linux Mint but no joy.
    An alternative 2.5 inch, USB-2 HDD (no additional PSU required) works perfectly.
    Is there provision to format an external USB connected HDD via a Humax utility if so how?
    Likely hypothetical with the drive not being recognised.

    EXT3 should work. You could remove the box internal drive and temporarily connect the 500GB drive and let the 1800T partition and format it. The box should then work OK with the now set up drive in a powered usb caddy.

    I even brought out the sata connections using a esata cable on my Foxsat-HDR and was able to record directly to a drive in a sata drive cradle.

    @grahamlthompson:

    As you advised, re-formatted EXT3 with GParted utility in Linux Mint, have a dual boot Win10/Linux Mint PC, now recognised on Humax USB port, many thanks.
