“Solid” H1 for Freesat; Freetime up 200%

    August 6, 2015

UK subscription-free satellite TV service Freesat has [..] seen a 200 per cent year-on-year increase in new connected customers. [..] Freetime sales [..grew] by 48 per cent year-on-year for the first six months of 2015.

Freesat added over 19,000 new homes in the first six months...

    [..]

Expansion of Freetime will continue with several new manufacturer partnerships to bring the user-friendly on-demand offering to a greater number of television viewers. In July, Freesat and Humax partnered to launch the HDR-1100S set-top box... Further Freetime product collaborations with Manhattan and Vestel are on track to launch in the next 12 months.

Alistair Thom, Freesat’s managing director, said it had been another strong quarter for the team at Freesat, with continued growth demonstrating the ongoing appeal of subscription-free connected TV. “Expanding our partnership with manufacturers like Humax, Manhattan and Vestel enables us to offer our customers great telly and on demand services, for even better value,” he added.

Beats me how Humax and Manhattan count as "new manufacturer partnerships."

    From Broadbandtvnews, 20 April 2015:

Leading the European market in digital products, Vestel have established agreements with the major digital television operators in Europe for the production of digital television and set-top boxes.
Among the prodcts that Vestel will be showing are the following.

Vestel and Freesat UK Ltd have partnered to develop a HD DVB-S2 PVR featuring award winning TV Guide: Freetime. Freetime EPG system enables going 7 days backward in the EPG and watch missed programs. Freetime EPG simply helps to organize recordings, recommends programs from Live TV and VoD. Device can be paired with Freesat app in smartphone and tablet to set recordings & reminders remotely. Product is available with 500GB or 1TB integrated HDD options and Wi-Fi enabled.

Presumably not "available" in the sense of being on sale in retail shops. The Freesat "Get Freetime" webpages continue to list only Humax boxes and Panasonic TVs. Still, it can't be just vapourware if it really was on show at Connect15.
