Hello Humax Forum, forgive me if this question has been discussed before I’m a ‘newby’ so I’m still reading the forum for other tips and tricks.....

A few weeks back I bought a humax 4000t on recommendation and it’s great, however the box seams to become unresponsive?

For example tonight watching a catch-up program I wanted to pause to have a refreshment break, and even though the remote glowed red, the only thing that showed on screen apart from the continuing catchup program was the volume control up and down, everything else did nothing?

I placed the remote right in front of the box, and even pressed the power button on the box, and again nothing apart from the volume control via the buttons on the box.

I waited for 20 mins or so after the catch up program had finished, but was just left with the catch up 5 logo but could not do anything so I un plugged from the rear left for 10mins, and replugged and all was ok.

Another time, after turning the box off with the remote to enter standby a few days ago the box the following morning had a purple glow on the led, nothing was scheduled to be recording that morning and I had not set the power on function but again the box was unresponsive and again I had to unplug and reboot, the recording from the night before said there was no signal? The aerial is straight to the box? My old Sony recorder never had to be unplugged so can you help, I’ve the latest software on the box via a download via the Ethernet cable when I first plugged it in a few weeks back.

    1. Is there an easy reboot other than unplugging as pulling the power to a hdd always feels wrong?
    2. Is this just a Humax thing.....or do you think it’s a faulty box?

    Please help, cheers Dean

Try removing the batteries from the remote and pressing the power button on it for 30 seconds or so. This discharges the stored energy so in effect resets the remote. Replace and test the remote again.

It's also not unknown for a remote to switch mode by itself thus making it unable to control the box.

Check and reset the operating mode as per the faq's

Thank you Grahamlthompson, I will certainly give that a try

Any ideas why the remote locking out would make the power and Chanel buttons on top of the actual 4000T unit do nothing when it’s not responding, but the volume worked on both the unit and the remote

    Update:

Box just locked up, tried the batteries out the remote trick and no luck....

All buttons on the unit and remote do nothing but volume on both

Only way to get the box alive again is to unplug and start over again..... I’m loosing confidence in this box already, anyone else got anything I can try before it goes back

    Cheers Dean

In my view you have got a duff box and sending it back is the correct thing to do but one in good health does perform quite reasonably.

Hope you get OK with Humax and they can solve this for you, by either a fix or a replacement box.

My 4000t has been sent back and I’ve got a replacement.

Weirdly the replacement does not have the led’s on the belly of the box, but instead on the front in the square panel, a lot easier to see, the firmware is the same version, but have they sent me an older or newer version of the 4000t I wonder, this one has been plugged in for 12 hours so far and worked faultlessly last night.

Thanks again for the replies and advice, cheers Dean
