We've had a programme on regular series record for ages. Suddenly now the machine has deleted the long-standing series recording instruction for the programme and it won't accept an instruction to re-instate it. So we can't record the programme. We have 20 programmes in the schedule list.

    Why? This is very basic.

How old is the last recording in the list ?

The last few recording items on the *schedule* are for series that have evidently finished. We deleted several yesterday, thinking that the schedule list had reached capacity.

But this turns out not to be the issue. Today the machine has picked out a scheduled recording for a soap we watch and just deleted it. And it won't let us reinstate either the series or a single programme from that series.

The last *recording* (different series altogether) was done this morning.

It gets worse. It's now marked in the Guide for recording a programme we don't watch. And it doesn't show this rogue programme in the Schedule list.

That's because Freeview has no way to tell a PVR when the last episode in a series has been transmitted. To get over this the broadcaster cannot re-use the series crid code for a totally different series until 13 weeks has elapsed without another episode being found. After 13 weeks the box deletes the series recording reservation

It's common for soaps that can have very high episode numbers to reset the episode number to 1 and start a new series one number higher than the last one. If you delete the series reservation you have you should be able to set another using the new codes.
