I put a 2 t bite h drive in a humax 200T machine that had a 500gb drive. It asked me to format disc witch I did
I think. but then came up with unknown error.

The max size for these units for the box to handle the install is most likely 1TB.

The newer FVP-4000/5000T boxes can use 2TB AV drives, as can the G2-Freesat+ boxes.
The older HDR-Fox-T2 boxes can go larger thanks to the custom firmware available for these boxes.

Nonsense. The limit is 2TB just the same as the earlier HDR-FOX T2. I know this for certain because I fitted a 2TB drive to our HDR-2000T last year. I suggest the OP tries again and if that fails, tells us what make and model of drive he is trying to use.

I know they will take 2TB because my other iedntical machine was a TB hard drive. It said I had to format disc which I did reluctantly but still came up with unknown error.

Why were you reluctant to format it? What make and model of drive is it?
