I do not think the TV is forgetting settings, it is changing them per input.
No idea how old your is but I can state that on the 2012 Sony I had you could set user settings per input as James has already allied to.
EG set up preferences for HDMI input 1, and when changing to HDMI input 2 it would default to factory setting until I set it up for that input and so on.....
It's a KDL W7 Sony TV that came out earlier this year.
The issues is that 2014 giotto cannot get into the individual update format screen for the HDMI input. On this range of TVs that is done by watching the HDMI input and then going into the screen format update and first making sure that the coverage option for the update is set to 'current'.
