Is it just me or are updates becoming more unreliable? Apple has just made the most appalling mess of iOS 8 which for them is unusual and MS made a cock up with an update a few weeks back, now this on the 1000s.

Something else I'll never understand is the practice of unplugging a PVR and router at bedtime. Why would you do this, especially the router?

In this case the update doesn't seem to be the issue. All the activity to fix seems to at the freesat servers end.

There still appears to be a lot of mis-steps by well known companies which hardly inspires confidence.

    Also missing epg icons.

    Yes. And on Recordings list.

Enter On Demand without pressing OK, select the few blank thumbnails no way of telling what you have selected.

    Yes.

Press OK now enter On Demand blank thumbnails now identified by info message

    Yes.

All functions appear to be working OK though.

    Yes.

My box hasn't been unpowered since first boot and having to re-connect but has been in sby for a while until a re-boot when a timed recording was underway.

My box hasn't been unpowered since the update. In sby each night.

    Equally why not?
I have an extensive network covering 8 rooms, with switches in each room. I only power up the room switch when required and I like to switch off the router (together with my PC, printer etc) when there is a prolonged period of non-use. I have no need for it during that time. So I'm looking for a cogent reason why I should not do this.

Identical to mine. Epg icons missing everywhere.

Hazarding a guess - the random-seeming problems with disappearing graphics may indeed be the fault of the update, since it seems the behaviour has changed when box is brought up before network.

But the problem of not being able to access Showcase and OnDemand is or was as you say entirely server-side and may now be fixed.

As well as my HDR-1000S I also have a HB-1000S in the bedroom (with disk attached). From time to time in the night, on visits to a small room, I have noticed it is powered-up in the wee hours. There is no indication on the unit but I see the reflection of the network port LED on the wall. (normally off in standby).

No idea what it is doing, but the unit is rarely used and for sure it is not frequent.

Be interesting to see if the graphics return overnight.

Doing nothing other than just watching the box and awaiting what happens tomorrow.
