I have a faulty Humax DTR T1010, fault unknown. I have obtained a working Humax DTR T1010 and want to swap hard discs between the two machines to save my recordings. Is it just a case of changing over the hard discs (I think I can do that) or will I have to get invoved in reformating, or any other complication?

Hello GMWILLIAMS,
Welcome to the forum. The DTR T1010 is a Youview pvr that has a hard drive divided up into many partitions on hard drive: buffer/data/14 day epg data & recordings. If you swap a hard drive from another machine you won't be able to SAVE the recordings as you mentioned & keep/save them on another machine. The recordings on any pvr are linked to that particular machine. Have you tried to test drive to set if it is either faulty or might need a reformat due to corrupted files?
You could check on https://community.youview.com/youview/ for more advice. There are quite a few users (inc. myself) that may have more knowledge about the hard drive recovery, but I fear there is not a lot you can do other than reformat/or swap drive over.
So, yes you can swap drive to replace a faulty drive, but the pvr will simply auto reformat the drive for you when first plugged in. Should be straight forward to swap, but as mentioned it won't solve your problem with recordings being lost.
Hopefully I have been able to help? Please let forum know if you need any further help. John L| Fri 31 Mar 2023 16:36:35 #2 | -
That's a blow but many thanks for saving me futile effort. Is there any way I can record the contents on the one hard disc to the other?

The only thing you could do, is to clone the partition via a pc using utility software, but it's more complicated, but from what I remember, it won't work as the machine will still auto format drive, so it will lose data again! Humax don't make it easy/don't want you to copy data from one pvr to another! The old Humax 9200/9300 & T2 models would allow you to access recordings & transfer them/recovery recordings. If you do manage to recover any recordings data, one way to maybe watch recordings is via VLC Player via your pc? But not viewed via your Youview pvr.
As mentioned, it would be worth asking users on Youview community forum + a few on this forum that may have more knowledge. On the Youview forum, I know a few that have more technical answers regarding hardware, inc staff at Youview that contribute to the forum. Good luck. John L

The Humax has now failed, out of the blue. Please Wait is all I can get and it will not respond to the remote. Have tried all the usual ways to resurect but to no avail. I would be happy to pay for it to be repaired but not sure what kind of specialist to take it to. Any advice welcome. I hate throwing machines like this away, which is basically the advice you get from Humax.

I did recommend looking further on Youview forum where there is more information. Also try the software option if this doesn't work.
Here is the link for you . . .

Carefully follow the instructions for your model. But make sure broadband is working and connected first. Your PVR is an old model, so if it can't be restored, then you may need replacement, but let's hope this works. Please let forum know how you get on.
