On my old 9200 one could jump to any position in a recording (press Play and then enter the time numerically).

Is a similar thing possible on the HDR T2, or is this another of the places where the older machines were easier or better? (I love the Fox T2, but do find it less convenient in a few respects.)

As far as I am aware, not possible on later T2 units, I just use the skip function or the central cursor control to jump through recordings.

Don't know the T2 but the Foxsat HDR can - with the "play bar" (sure there is a proper name for it) you key in (from memory) four digits - 0022 to jump to 22 mins in.
Strange if the function was dropped.

That was what happened with the 9200. It may be possible in the T2, given that it works for the Foxsat, though they do differ in some respects.

But what exactly do you mean by the "play bar" and how do you access it? Pressing Play on the remote does not seem to bring up anything on the T2.

Pressing play during live or playback of a recording should display the 'timebar' at the bottom of the screen on the T2

Yes, on the Fox T2 pressing Play does display the green time bar. But one can't enter a time using the number keys, it just shows the "Not Permitted" sign.

Seems a good one to add to a wish list.
