I have scanned all of the postings and think I can answer my own question, but some confirmation would be great.

    First some background:
I am a long-time Media Center user and currently have an HTPC with four tuners – 2 Freeview and 2 Freesat. It is not unusual for 3 or 4 simultaneous recordings to be going on and this requirement has always led me to stay with Media Center (MC), rather than switch to a 2-tuner-only PVR.

However, MC is becoming increasingly frustrating to use and the latest, and perhaps ‘fatal’ problem is that there are no Freesat Guide Listings available beyond the end of Dec 2012 (Freeview is OK as I can use In-Band Guide info), so no more HD Freesat recordings without using manual timings.

So, I am looking at getting 2 x Humax 1000s PVRs to give me the up-to-4 tuners setup that I currently have. From what I have read so far, the DNLA setup only allows the PVR to act as a Client, with the possibility (certainty?) of an upgrade to Server functionality at some later date. I assume therefore, that at the moment, if I buy 2 x 1000s I will have to use both boxes for playback (switching between them for different recordings), rather than being able to use one as a ‘Server’ and watch all of the recordings, from both boxes, on the ‘Client’ 1000s?

Can anyone confirm that my understanding, as set out above, is correct?

My other option is to keep MC just for Freeview recordings and use it to Serve the 1000s as a Client. This will only work if the Humax recognises MC’s ‘.wtv’ file format for streaming? (I can’t find anything that confirms or denies its ability to play WTV files, but as WMV files are listed as compatible, but WTV are not listed, I guess it probably doesn’t do WTV)

At the present the hdr-1000s is client only so you will be able to stream from the box that recorded the content to the other one. If you can upload a short clip of .wtv I can check if the HDR-1000s will stream from my laptop. From what I can remember .wtv isn't that different from a conventional transport stream format.

    Thanks Graham.

So, I am understanding this correctly - a recording made on one box could be streamed to the second box, even though the boxes are currently only Clients and not Servers?

I have attached short (about a minute) WTV file, in SD.

I was assuming the box viewing the recording made on the other will be acting as a client, but thinking about it you must be correct the sending box will of course need to be a server. Can't see any attachment.

You may have to use a fileshare site like skydrive.

I see this site has an upload limit of 0.1 MB, so way too small for even a short WTV file. I will upload to my SkyDrive and then let you have the details.

File is visible on HDR-1000s (TwonkyMedia server) but wont play. Converted to mpeg2 transport stream file - no recode just container change (I used VideoRedoTVsuite) plays back no problem

I also tried via DLNA (WMP 12) - "unsupported format" message.
