When I pressed the Netflix button, I was presented with the sign in/create account screen and then pressed 'X' to exit. Rather than exit, it kept the Netflix screen displayed and active. Whilst I was able to change channel, use the EPG, etc in the background, I had to put the STB into standby and then switch it back on to be able to view TV again.

Tried a few times to replicate. so far without success.

I've been thinking of buying the Humax FVP-5000T for my parents.

Do you need a special TV aerial to receive all those channel recording capabilities at once?

They have an outside digital TV aerial that's around 7 or 8 years old.

No; any aerial capable of receiving the complete set of multiplexes from the local transmitter will do just fine.

As Martin says nothing special about the aerial, they do however need a High Definition TV with HDMI inputs. Incidentally no such thing as a digital aerial, they are all analogue devices. The difference is that the analogue carrier is modulated with digital information. The great majority of aerials used with analogue transmissions work just as well as so called digital aerials. It was a national scandal that this myth was spread simply to con people they needed a new type of non existent aerial. In a very few cases some might have needed a new aerial, not because of the change to digital, rather a change in the frequencies used by their transmitter.

    Why?
    Don't the RCA outputs work?

I think you'll find that as long as your TV has a HDMI socket on it .
You should be fine as most TV's do now regardless of if its a HD TV, However, In order to get the best picture Quality HD is the way to go.
Even if your TV is HD ready, The Humax should get the HD channels, in order
for your parent's to get the full benefit from their Viewing pleasure.
Good Luck, If you go ahead and make the purchase.
from the first few remark's on this forum They, and you may be in for a pleasant surprise.

I assume they do but in common with all recent boxes that they don't have RGB on a scart socket just a CVBS output on a yellow RCA phono. This is the worst possible video connection and buying such an expensive box and then only using it with a SD only TV is a bit like buying a Rolls Royce and putting a Fiat 500 engine in it.

Thank you for all your helpful comments.

My parents do have a HD TV.

It does has HDMI inputs too.

I can see that the Humax FVP-5000T does also have a RCA connection, but no scart lead connection.

I had an old TV without HD before, that worked fine with a virgin HD box sending it information. I was not able to enjoy the benefits of the HD quality on that TV, but I was still able to get a standard definition picture and sound, until I was able to upgrade my TV to a HD one.
So, I expect as long as someone has a HDMI or RCA connection, I expect it should give them picture and sound up to the quality their TV allows (up to a max quality of HD, if the TV has that of course).

My mind just got blown on the digital TV aerial myth. Still a bit confused about that one.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.
