Humax don't really explain this very well. When you do series recording of a program. If the same program or a different episode is aired on the same day but at a later time the Humax will record it. Is this correct?

The broadcaster attaches a CRID to each of the episodes in a series...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content_reference_identifier

...this allows the box to properly identify the episodes in a series and thus record them.
One example where this does not work as you expect (different episode is aired on the same day) is Law & Order on 5USA. Often they broadcast 2 episodes in the early afternoon and another different 2 in the early evening. For reasons unknown they are identified as 2 different series and end up in two folders.

Each series also has a CRID. Episodes with the same series CRID will end up in the same folder.

No to the first part of the question, and yes to the second part of the question, providing you have only asked for 1 "series" to be recorded.

Each series has an internal identifier called a series CRID.
The broadcaster decides what constitutes a "series". A series could be defined by the broadcaster as the first transmission of a connected group of programmes, with each repeated group having a different series CRID. Or they could just put everything against 1 series CRID, including the repeats. Here in the UK one of our main broadcasters sometimes does one and sometimes does the other!

If you have just picked one programme event from the guide and asked for a series to be recorded then the Humax will record all broadcast episodes for the same series CRID providing that the individual episode has not already been recorded due to that series recording request. What it does internally is to remember which programmes it has already recorded and avoid recording those again. If the broadcaster has setup the repeats with a different series CRID then the Humax will treat each of them as separate series and you can set a series schedule for each "series" and then get more than 1 recording for each episode - 1 for each separate "series" requested.

If you delete a series request and then set it up again, this will cause its memory of what has been recorded to be wiped. Depending on how the broadcaster has defined its series CRIDs then this may cause some repeats to be recorded.

I doubt that I do either but its probably not as straight forward as you may have been hoping.

Not only that, say you set a series recording on a Monday for a episode aired the following Friday.

The epg is scanned for the first episode with a matching series CRID. That episode can be on the Monday you set the episode and will pick up ones after this that have a different programme CRID. So if it happens to be a daily programme you will get the recordings for Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur and the Friday you originally set the recording for.

Try setting a daily daytime repeat series next Monday using the Friday epg. Now check what episodes you have scheduled.

As to Humax, the system is down to Freesat and Freeview. The Humax and all other boxes/TV's have to use the same system with the broadcasters responsible for the actual codes.

Today three episodes of the series was on. One episode was on earlier and was playing catch up as the ABC missed one episode from last week So this was un scheduled in the programming. Another two together were on a at the regular time and all episodes were recorded.
