I've just tried to set the opening ceremony to record on BBC1HD and my schedule shows instead the preceding countdown programme plus an "episode", also called Olympic countdown, but with the correct timing 21.00 to 00.30. What's going on?

That is because the BBC in their infinite wisdom have coded the two as a split programme.

There is also a green jigsaw icon which I've never seen before. I guess the 2 programmes are linked, but the way they show on the Schedule is very confusing.

Tha icon indicates it is a 'split' programme.

Thanks Barry. But they are not split, they are combined, are they not? In other words you can't record one without the other?

If you check your timers list, highlight Olympics Countdown, and press right you will find 2 entries, once recorded you will also find 2 entries in your recordings list.

Why the BBC have done this heaven knows

Yes, I spotted that. Both entries are called "Olympic Countdown" so the Opening Ceremony itself apparently doesn't exist! The BBC are out to confuse us! Thanks for the help.
