If you have the custom firmware installed with the undelete package you can retrieve the files easily. If not, it might still be possible. The Humax disk is in EXT3 format: someone who knows about Linux file deletion should be able to comment on methods for recovery.
I don't have custom firmware installed with the undelete package.
I have the vanilla flavour of HDR-FOX T2.
I will have to look at the EXT3 format and see what I can do?
I haven't got Linux software and there is no recycle file like the external hard drive set up I have, luckily it's not disastrous, just annoying of some series that I probably won't [can't] watch.
Thanks for taking the time.
Edward
The reason that file deletion takes a long time on Humax Linux based boxes is that unlike Windows the complete file is deleted. The custom firmware undelete works by simply hiding the recording files until such time as the disk space is required, in effect emulating the Windows recycle bin.

Google 'Recovering deleted ext3 file'.
To recover will be a right pain.
There has been a lot of work in developing software to recover from drives that Windows likes but a lot less for ext3 drives. Also your external drive can just be plugged into a Windows PC's USB port. Also presumably you are still recording programmes, and therefore these new recording could be making the old recordings unrecoverable.
You would need to remove the hard drive from your HDR-2000T (breaking the guarantee seal) and attach it to a computer. Depending on the operating system (windows / Linux / mac) you would then need to find and use recovery software. Recovery software for Linux is scarce. But it does exist.

As you now have more time on your hands as you are not watching the deleted programmes you could try out the custom software instead.
Thanks for all your replies.
As there seems to be no way to do this easy.
I will just accept that the files are gone and hope they come back on BBC2/BBC4 sommetime in the future, and oh yes, be more careful.
Best wishes to you all
Edward
Are the programmes available on iPlayer? With custom firmware you can download programmes as well as stream.
