As some of you might have seen I've been trying to revive my HDR FOX T2 after a sudden crash yesterday morning. I've pretty much come to terms with the fact that it's gone for good and so have the recordings I had there.
I now need to look at replacing it. Any suggestions on what I should go for?
I'm not in a massive rush as I have my old 9200T for now and I also have a talktalk huawei youview box.

I guess the question is should I maybe go for a Humax Youview box or stick with a Freeview box?
Any whispers out there on new features coming up for either of these platforms?
I see the HUMAX HDR-2000T Freeview+ HD Recorder - 1 TB is £179.99 at Currys at the moment. That seems quite cheap compared to other websites.

    Any advice appreciated.

The 2000T would be familiar to you as it has the same UI as the HDR T2....good price btw.

A bit quicker in response to users inputs then the HDR T2 especially when using iplayer, youtube etc.

Have you considered a managers special HDR T2 from Humax Direct:

I would be wary of buying YouView, at least for the time being. Good UI and good PBS catchup, but no DLNA, no wireless, and the current software can't handle the new iPlayer or Connected Red Button or the news and sports apps that go with CRB.

    Essentially it's a BT/TalkTalk system box. For non-BT/TT users, it's a bit of a pig in a poke, IMO.

Thanks guys. You've pretty much confirmed what I was thinking re You View. I hardly ever use the TT Youview box because it is so slow and not a patch on the HDR Fox T2. But it's ok for catchup on the 5 main channels.
So, if you had a choice of a manager's special HDR Fox T2 or a brand new 2000T for £50 more which would you go for?
Is there stuff that the 2000T can't do that the T2 can or vice versa? I remember I was quite disappointed that the T2 didn't have pic in pic unlike the 9200 nor the ability to jump to a particular time within a recording.
Is there list on here perhaps that compares the 2 units?
    Thanks

I'd also be interested in such a list.

just to confuse matters for you even more...

Humax direct are also selling the 2000T for £10 less than the hdr-fox-t2

It would appear that they value the hdr-fox-t2 over the 2000T, obviously they've done their number crunching and could easily argue the point either way.

There isn't an obvious answer, it's a personal choice, Barry's mentioned that the 2000T is a bit quicker, it also comes with more flash and mainboard memory which could prove important for future developments.
From my own personal point of view, the custom firmware far outweighs any benefit the 2000T may have over the hdr-fox-t2. As you've already used the hdr-fox-t2 with and without the custom firmware you're best placed to decide which box suits your personal usage best.

If you enjoy tinkering then I'd favour the hdr-fox-t2, if you want a later designed slightly quicker bog standard locked down box then the 2000T

Cannot make a judgement call on that list as not a member so not able to view it - Therefore some of the following might be repetitive.

2000T - No front display, just and led indicator, red standby, red on recording, blue on not recording, purple updating software.

2000T - Different remote, but you can use the original HDR T2 if preferred.

2000T - With current publically released software, no loop thru, or sharing of HD content with other Humax devices.

    2000T - iptv channels work.

2000T - Part 'silvered' front cover, 1800T (320GB HDD) is all black if that is preferred.

2000T - Can archive content to an ext HDD formatted to ntfs.

I did that the other week. As expected I gained the WIDE button for use on the 2000T plus the abilty to select 'source' on my TV. What I found was that I lost the ability to pause. I was expecting the play button on the RM-F04 to be the same as the RM-I09U but it isn't at least not when using iPlayer.

    Get another HDR-T2. No brainer!
