I have installed the media bundle that works great but is there a way to stream AVI's from my media centre (windows 7) to the HDR?

The media bundle turns the HDR into a DLNA server or media server. It doesn't turn into a client, so no.

Will it be possible in the future? My dreambox 500 can play AVI's so would of thought the Humax would be able too.

afaik the built in broadcom chip has no support for AVI's which is a container that can contain a myriad of formats. Starting with enormous files containing uncompressed video. DV compressed files used by mini DV camcorders (about 4GB for 20 minutes of video content in 720 x 576 pixel format) down to tiny low res content for display on portable devices.

Thanks for the info, is there a converter you can recommend which I can convert .avi files to the correct file format. I know will need to put the final video into AV2HDR but I don't know what file format the HDR uses.
Cheers

From the help file of AV2HDRSD Video 576
Width 720 pixels
Height 576 pixelsSD Video 720
Width 1280 pixels
Height 720 pixelsHD Video 1080
Width 1920 pixels
Height 1080 pixelsOther sizes have been encoded and successfully played back on the HDR,
(The horizontal, or vertical resolution is then stretched by the HDR to fill the screen area).
However, this is very much a case of trial and error. The above sizes are the only ones guaranteed to work.Video format MPEG-2 or H264
Aspect ratio 16/9.
Scan type progressive or interlaced
Frame rate 23.976, 25, or 29.97 frames per second.Audio SD or HD
MPEG1 layer 2 or Dolby AC3.Supported containers for A/V streams are .TS .MTS .M2TS .MPG and .VOB.
You can drag and drop your video anywhere in AV2HDR's window. If the container format is supported it will display streams information. However, that does not guarantee playback on the HDR. The video and audio streams must also match the above specifications. Please Note: For HD playback on the HDR, the source H264 video stream must contain NAL units of type SEI, and in the correct order. i.e the SEI unit must precede the Pic Slice. Video streams created using applications which use the FFmpeg x264 codec are known to be incompatible with the HDR as they are encoded without any SEI units at all.
A freeware application, meGUI has been used successfully to create compatible H264 streams from other video formats.
AV2HDR cannot, and never will, import other video formats such as .AVI .DIVX .WMV .MOV
These must first be re-encoded to the above specifications using the software of your choice. There is an abundance of software re-encoders available for this purpose.
Although the help file does not mention it H264 1440 x 1080 anamorphic footage works fine, as does 704 x 576.
Basically the file format is transport stream mpeg (mpeg2 for SD, H264 (mpeg4-AVC) for HD content.
Tsmuxergui can help if the footage is the right resolution, convert to .ts or .mts.
If you want to upload a small sample to a file share site I will have a play

Thanks, your like a walking encyclopedia for HDR's. I have just bought some software called OJOsoft Total Video Converter. And am converting to MPEG2, I put those settings in but need to wait 1.5hrs to convert as the file is 4.4gb (this is an mkv file). The stuff I record from my Dreambox saves as MPEG so just put them through AV2HDR and works without having to convert through the other software so thats great and fast. Thanks for all the help. Peace

What resolution and frame rate is the .mkv file ?

Had problems converting the MKV files but converting AVI's seems okay.
The MKV has a resolution of 1280x528
Framerate 23.976215| Sun 29 May 2011 15:00:33 #9 | -
Suspect you would be wasting your time as the aspect ratio is probably not 16:9.
You really need to start with a TV standard like 720 x 576, 1440 x 1080 or 1920 x 1080.
