Hi All
My Fox seems to be dying, when it starts up the blue light comes on then goes off every few seconds, the display says something like "Start System" the Humax start logo appears on the TV then, when the blue light goes off, the tv reverts to its own tv programme. I have a number of programmes that I want to watch and/or save, I have a spare Fox and my question is - can I simply swap out the HDD, into the spare and then copy the programs that I want to save, onto my new Aura?

Hi All
I have a spare Fox and my question is - can I simply swap out the HDD, into the spare and then copy the programs that I want to save, onto my new Aura?It is possible but the process is not "simply". If you "simply" do what you are proposing, the copy of any HD recording will still be encrypted, and any copies of the standard definition (SD) recordings will be corrupted and not playable by anything.
All recordings on HDR-FOX T2s are encrypted. The encryption key is based on the individual box and is not the same for any two HDR-FOX T2s.
When a recording is copied via attaching a USB memory stick or an HDD to the HDR-FOXT2 any using the standard HDR-FOX T2 move/copy functionality. When doing this the HDR-FOX T2 will attempt to create the copy so that it is no longer encrypted. HD recordings will remain encrypted and will not play on any other device unless you have a way of overriding the encryption.
Getting back to what you are thinking of doing, if the fully working HDR-FOX T2 is used to copy SD recordings from the other Fox's HDD it will still attempt to decrypt the SD recordings but, unless hacked, will use its own encryption key. The result will be something that can't be played by any device.
This is not to say that it is not possible to make unencrypted copies from the faulty HDR-FOX T2, just that the effort involved may question you to ask yourself whether it is worth it. There is more than 1 method you could use and many of the members over at another forum have used these. The other forum is hummy.tv.
There is an alternative of attempting to fix your faulty HDR-FOX T2. It could be the HDD itself that is causing the issue. If you take the top off and remove the HDD can you check the SMART data via a PC to see whether or not it is the HDD that is probbaly causing the issue? Then you could try replacing its HDD, with a suitable HDD. Once that has proved to be working attach the removed HDD to what was the faulty HDR-FOX T2 using a powered USB/SAT adapter (£12 - £17) and copy the recordings back on to the HDR-FOX T2.
The old HDD may not be fit enough to allow the HDR-FOX T2 to work but often they can be fit enough for a straight forward copy.| Mon 3 Feb 2025 13:27:14 #2 |
