Hi - I'm new to this Forum. I am trying to find a way of transferring recordings >4GB from my Foxsat-HD to a computer. This has been tackled before (see "transferring recorded stuff" in this forum) but the software which allowed network access to the Hard Disk in the Foxsat is apparently no longer available - it seems it isn't on the download sites quoted, and anyway the last activity seems to be some time ago. So I'm asking if anyone has a solution for getting large files from a Foxsat HD to a computer (Mac preferably) over a network, or as second best, via USB. My Foxsat is on a network via router which has been modified to talk to a VPN, if that's relevant - but I could reconfigure it to be attached directly to my home network. I would love to be able to see the Foxsat on the network the way I can see my routers, but that's not the priority.

    TIA

If you mean Raydon’s Media and File Server Bundle then it still seems to available from

Assuming the OP means a Foxsat-HDR and not a Foxsat-HD the main thread for the CF is here.

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/freesat/1661195-media-file-server-bundle-foxsat-hdr-release-4-0-part-3-a.html

The blog link needs updating latest version is 4.0.9.

Thanks, yes it is a Foxsat-HDR. I got onto the first page, and the link there led to a site which said the file had been deleted. It didn't refer to 4.0.9. Anyway very grateful thanks for the link - I'll follow it up tomorrow.

I have downloaded Raydon's files and read the 'ReadMe' once. It's a big step to change the firmware, at least it is for me - someone who works with computers every day and has written a lot of software, but not in this kind of context at all. Right now I am concerned about a couple of things and I could do with some reassurance.

    1. I understand that the underlying system of the Humax box is Linux, and this explains how alternative versions can be produced by third parties like Raydon. Though I am really unfamiliar with *nix operating systems, I can take this on trust, and I believe I will be able to talk to the Humax box via a browser. However, I'm normally working on a Mac - I can get it to run Windows 7 which Raydon uses as a point of reference, but do I have to? It's a tedious process which I would rather avoid.

    2. I will want to install the full web interface, but I don't understand where it comes from: is it already in the file on my USB device or do I get it from the internet, or what? I suppose I'm being dumb but I don't see where this is explained in Raydon's document - in fact I'm not sure where any of the other applications come from (or if I'm going to need them - see next point).

    3. I have just one clear motive in all this, which is to move HD ( >4Gb) recordings from the box's hard disk to my computer, where with luck I will be able to edit and play them. I am not clear how I'm going to have to do this: of course I would like to do so just using the web interface, but I'm not sure if my computer's hard disk will show up at all as it would on Windows Explorer or the Mac Finder. If not, I guess it's FTP - is this right, and do I need to download a package to do this?

    TIA

Anything with a browser will work Mac, Smart Phone etc. If the only reason is to transfer HD files unless you recorded them manually using non-freesat then other than saving space on the hdd there's no point You can't play them on anything else due to the encryption.

You can access the hdr's drive by either ftp or by mapping the Foxsats hdd as a network drive in Windows Explorer.

Thanks - it's nice to be in touch with someone who knows! I have been browsing the forum for a bit and have just found out for myself that HD programs are encrypted - I wonder why those and not the SD ones. Just to stop people like me, maybe. Given that I can already transfer SD programs via USB, albeit very slowly, for my purposes I don't think the firmware will really buy me anything. Pity, but there it is. I normally record in HD when I can, tho right now I can't reliably access Channel 4HD because of the December satellite changes (I'm a long way South) - I hope a 1m dish will do it, finding out this week. But I digress.

    Thanks again.
