My 16 month old Humax DTRT1000 has been turning itself off usually after a few hours leaving a blank screen and is unresponsive to any commands from the remote. Sometimes it also make a rather worrying fizzing / sparking sound when shuts down. To restore I have to reboot by switching off and on then waiting for the start-up process to restart. Usually this second session last the rest of the evening but last night it shut down for a second time after only 10 minutes. The store where I bought (Richer Sounds) advises a factory reset but this will mean losing all recorded material. Anyone else had this experience and any suggestions please.

You could try a Maintenance Mode recovery. See http://videos.youview.com/support/maintenance_mode.pdf for instructions.
If this doesn't help, you may find that the box will have to be exchanged, which does inevitably mean losing your recordings. You might want to start watching up the ones you most want to see.
