Try powering it off for a few minutes.

I have tried this and it still will not come out of 'boot'
perhaps if I leave it longer? Is this a known problem?

    Welcome to the Forum

I have seen one report of similar, and the owner left it powered off for 'a while' it then booted correctly the next time he switched it on.

I had the same problem. You may prefer to call Humax support (and I suggest yoiu do) but what finally solved it for me was powering down, removeing the lid, disconnecting the hard disk power and sata leads and powering up.
This worked fine (initial meesage no HD detected).
Powered down reconnected - Powered up - all O.K. - very strange.
Note: After power off the red Led seems to fade about the time the power supply capacitors would have discharged (wonder if this is by design?)

Well you can see what I did - but I would try the absence from power for > 60 secs first.

I just wondered if the OP did anything different!
