A limited version of Sky's NowTV service has been available on YouView boxes since shortly after the service launched. Until recently, YouView users could buy the movies and the sports passes, but not the Entertainment Pass, which gives access to live and catchup content from a selection of Sky's subscription channels. Until recently, the YouView boxes were unable to handle the unicast streaming of these channels.
Last October, the Humax YouView boxes, both retail and BT versions, received a major update, giving them the capability to handle Connected Red Button and NetFlix and other HTML5 applications, including, in theory, the NowTV channels. But only the catchup: unicast streaming of the live channels is apparently still beyond the capacity of this over-hyped, over-priced, over-bragged-about box. The (admittedly subsidised) £9.99 NowTV boxlet can do it, but YouView cannot.
According to a recent article in ISP Review (http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2015/01/concern-skys-now-tv-service-talktalk-bts-youview-tv-platform.html):
A Sky Spokesperson told ISPreview.co.uk (canned statement):“Sky remains committed to giving YouView customers the full NOW TV experience and has been working for some time with YouView management to achieve this.”
Very unimpressive, YouView.
