    Just tried a 64GB flash drive, no joy, format option not accessible.

    The format option is not available on my 64GB or 128GB flash drives either.

    I'd still recommend a HDD - TSR in particular is likely to wear out a flash disk fairly quickly.

    There's an option to turn buffering on or off. If you don't need to 'trick play' live TV and just record, then turning buffering off will help wear on the flash drive.
