I am trying to get a 1100s to replace my old Humax box which could no longer get BBC I-player (ITV Hub working OK). The first one I bought didn't work and Humax support concluded that the card inside was faulty. The second box appeared to have same problem. Now on my third which still isn't working. Have done Factory resets, turned off router etc. My smart TV is getting I-player OK. I am connected with an Ethernet cable and when I go into Network connection it appears OK. When I try to get Earlier programmes or use On Demand/ IPlayer I either get a blank screen or are told that I am not connected. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Three boxes in a row suggests not a faulty box.
    1) Are you on the latest s/w level, 3.00.44? If not then update.
2)How long did you have the box powered up when you tried the OD?

Hi Thanks for replying. Yes I am on the latest software.

I have tried the option to switch off router for 10 minutes and unplugged box then switched on router plus box. Then did a factory reset and left box on BBC1 HD for 30 mins before trying On demand. (Was suggested elsewhere on the forum). Didn't seem to make any difference.

I am reluctant to start playing around with router settings as I don't know very much about that side of things and can't aford to mess up my internet access. Also as my old Humax box works on the ITv Hub I don't think that could be an issue.
    regards

    Linda

It does sound like a local issue unfortunately and I understand the reluctance to go into the router settings.
Is the smart TV also connected via ethernet cable and if so can you swap the ethernet cables over, ie. TV <-> Humax, this will rule out a problem with the cable.
Or if you have the, presumably hdrFoxSat, still connected with working itv hub, swap that ethernet cable over.

I'd imagine a TV connected via WiFi, FoxSat via cable and you've swapped the cable to the new 1100s. In which case it should simply work. Let us know if necessary, after swapping cable as above and testing, make of router and how it is connected to the TV and Humax, also the network settings on the TV and also Humaxes.

Network settings will be something like:
    ip: 192.168.1.20
    netmask: 255.255.255.0
    gateway: 192.168.1.1
    dns: 192.168.1.1

It does look more confusing than it actually is, all of the above will likely start with 192.168.0.? or 192.168.1.?

and the TV and Humaxes should have different ip addresses such as 192.168.1.20 TV, 192.168.1.21 FoxSat, 192.168.1.30 1100S
obviously these will differ to your location

I recall one of my HB1000S when first installed would not connect to the internet. It was ethernet to a Netgear switch, then ethernet to a Cisco switch, then ethernet to my Netgear router. All attempts to connect failed. I connected the ethernet from the box to another input on the first Netgear switch. Connected no problem. I assumed at that point that the first input was faulty, so swapped another device into that input. Connected no problem. Swapped that switch for another Netgear. All devices on both switches connected no problem. Never did find out what the initial problem was but had no problems since.

Many thanks Damian and Pollensa. I have switched the cables around as suggested with no luck. Here are details you suggested.

I have a Thomson Speedtouch 585 V6 router. Connected to TV by WiFi and to Humax boxes by ethernet cable. Have tried the new Humax on WiFi.

    The IP addresses are
    TV 192.168.254.2
    Humax 1100S 192.168.254.1
    Humax FoxSat 192.168.254.5

Subnet mask for all is 255.255.255.0

    Gateway on Humax 1100S 192.168.254.254
Router address on Fox Sat 192.168.254.254

Primary DNS address TV & Humax 1100S 192.168.254.254

DNS Address on FoxSat HDR 248.68.16.0

Secondary DNS on Humax 1100S 158.152.1.58

    Thanks

    Linda

The DNS addresses in your Freesat boxes should usually point to the router's DNS address. In your case 192.168.254.254.

    Hi Linda,

thank you for the information. I don't have a speedtouch router, hopefully another member has one and can help clear up a few things.
Just to confirm, you have two ethernet cables from the router? one for the foxsat and one for the 1100s. Or one cable which is being swapped around, also you have tried different network ports. If you have one cable I'd be unplugging from foxsat, unplugging on router and using a different port, plug back into 1100s

In the meantime, I guess you're going to have to go into the router configuration. Should be reached on 192.168.254.254 from your laptop/pc
From the manual, chapter 2, once the humax is connected via cable you should be able to see it in the section 'home network -> devices' and you should be able to configure it here.
Alternatively via WiFi, 'wireless device settings' there is an option 'allowed on wlan' which should be ticked to allow WiFi to connect.
section 2.2.4 from the manual shows different security levels for WiFi and how devices are allowed to connect if at all.

Primary dns looks correct for the TV and 1100s, secondary shouldn't be needed, but most likely added by the router and I'm guessing you should be able to see this secondary address on the internet setting details page somewhere on the router

Not too sure how the dns is working on the foxsat with 248.68.16.0

My advice to set up ethernet or WiFI not both and I'd be switching the 1100s off and unplugging for a few seconds between switching from one to the other.

You should also be able to ping the 1100s from you laptop/pc by opening a 'dos' window or command prompt and pinging the address that the 1100s is showing, i.e.
    ping 192.168.254.1
If this works then the 1100s is connected to the router, but still may not be able to get through to the internet because of router settings

let us know how you get on, and hopefully someone may know of a 'feature' on the router that needs to be set/unset as the case maybe.

    edit.
I'm a fan of fixed ip over cable, so I'd be forgetting wifi and dhcp and setting the 1100s manually as:
    ip address 192.168.254.51
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.254.254
    dns 192.168.254.254
and I'd leave the secondary dns blank. This should work and once it does you can work backwards as necessary

DNS Address on FoxSat HDR 248.68.16.0

Secondary DNS on Humax 1100S 158.152.1.58

    Those two look unusual...

Your router is handing out some very unusual DNS info.
