The Humax has been a constant companion for many years since the demise of the Topfield twin tuner. In the last two days it has been running well and then suddenly the TV screen went black and sound was absent. I could hear the disk chattering. Switching it in and out of standby using the button on the unit does not help (the corresponding control on the remote has not worked for several months). Powering off and on also offers no improvement. Overnight rest, powered off, allowed a resumption the following day, for an hour or two.
Is this terminal or will the patient recover?

The patient has recovered. Not sure if it's short or long-term.

Might be worthwhile explaining what you did to restore it, if anything. Or did it just come back?

I gave the Humax a rest and watched via the Fire TV Stick for a day or two. The next day there was sound and vision and it ran for a full evenings viewing.

Can't explain it yet. See what it's like tomorrow.
