Given the problems with this unit is there a viable alternative which is stable and reliable which offers the functionality (or near functionality) of the SKY+ HD box?

I just want to be able to watch a range of channels, record programmes and record whole series in a simple-to-use, straightforward and reliable/consistent manner.

    Please advise.

HDR-100S seems very stable since last update.

Does your statement include the spate of HDD issues which have increased over recent weeks?

I don't recall the update including any claims to fix HDD issues.
