Can anyone tell me if the HD FOX T2 box handles the switching between 16:9 and 4:3 ratios correctly (via the scart socket connection) when set to Letterbox format please?

I'm looking to buy a T2 to use with a 4:3 screen tv but after already having tried an Icecrypt box and the Humax HDR-2000T recorder neither of which did the switching properly I don't want to spend more money on a T2 if it's likely be problematical.

At the moment I use a Tvonics DVB-T2 recorder which works flawlessly but I really want a simple DVB-T2 compatible none pvr type box because I find very little of interest to record from tv and of course because DVB-T2 looks like becoming the norm for future hardware.

The T2 seems to be the only option left for me as far as a basic DVB-T2 box goes and I'd rather have peace of mind in knowing that the aspect ration switching will work with an older tv like mine before getting one off of Ebay and being disappointed with it.

    Any comments appreciated.

    Thanks...Colin

    Yes it does.

The HD-FOX T2 works well via scart with a 4:3 TV. Unlike the HDR-2000T the HD-FOX T2 actually pays attention to which ever aspect setting you set it to for a 4:3 TV! Also unlike the HDR-2000T the HD-FOX T2 also has a dedicated WIDE button in case you would like to easily switch between centre, letterbox 16:9 and letterbox 14:9.

The HDR-2000T is poor for 4:3 TVs and its inadequacy is stark when compared to the HD-FOX T2, the HDR-FOX T2, the 9200T, the 9150T and the 9300T.
When you set an HD-FOX T2 to letterbox (and bar 4:3 material) it shows letterbox, set it to centre and it stays centre, or set it to 14:9 and it stays 14:9 (apart from 4:3 material). The HD-FOX-T2 successfully takes account of the different interpretations of the aspect ratio indicator used by the broadcasters and copes with 4:3 material and presents it as 4:3 (centre) even when the Humax's aspect setting is set to letterbox 16:9 or 14:9.

Changing the subject slightly. The HD-FOX T2 uses the same menu system as the HDR-2000T including fonts and shading. Presumably you are OK with that.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply Luke...just what I was looking for.

It seems then that the older T2 box will work in a similar way to that of my current Tvonics box and that's what's important to me so I'll whiz off and buy a T2 without hesitation.

As far as the 2000T goes I found that box a delight to use and didn't need to refer to the manual to set it up as it was dead easy (to me anyway.) As I said my real gripe with it was whenever I set it to 4:3 Letterbox the damn thing forever kept defaulting to 16:9 which for my tv was useless. Other than that I did notice that signal reception was significantly lower than my Tvonics box but as it didn't affect getting a decent picture this was never a concern to me. I just had the feeling that Humax may never have tested this new model on an older tv but they might get it right later with a software update. In the end I returned mine to Argos as faulty with no questions asked.

Anyway as I said I don't really need a pvr anyway what with all the rubbish (in my opinion) on tv so the T2 will become my main box and I'll keep my current pvr just for a backup and they should see me through till my good old Sony Trinitron tv packs up and then I'll be forced over to the new generation stuff (oh dear!)

    Cheers mate.
