I am a newbie to this forum, so some of this may be covered. But I read quite a bit first. I want to do what I thought was quite simple - copy some film material from HDR1000 onto an external USB HDD and recopy onto a Humax Foxsat (which is in France and can't get iPlayer).
So a Toshiba 500GB USB HDD £32 https://www.toshiba.eu/Contents/Toshiba_teg/EU/Others/HDD_datasheets/Canvio_Basics_Datasheet_05_2014.pdf self-powered USB3 but backwardly compatible to USB2. I formatted the Toshiba to NTFS on my PC. But the HDR1000 does not seem to like it.
Is the USB port on the front the same spec as on the back ? Is this the right USB HDD format ? Is there hidden functionality you can't see with the remote controller ? If I get it backed up, will the Foxsat read it ? Thanks.

Thanks Barry - rather surprising. Good job I didn't spend too much money then.

How about FTP transfer via ethernet to my PC ? Would that work ?

    Regards

These units do not have a FTP server, so no.
