    Hello,

Bought a 1010S last July, worked fine until yesterday morning.

when i switched it on it fails partway through bootup, and shows E4 on its display. I assume this is an error code. Bought direct from Humax, they are doing a courier swap next week. This sounds like a HDD failure to me,but cannot find a list of error codes for this model, anyone know for sure and/or had similar problem ?
I am not pleased about losing all the stuff recorded on it either.

    Welcome to the Forum

Whilst I appreciate you have already arranged a swap out, you could try to upload the reset file from following link:

http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/freesat-hd - the bottom file is the one you need.

Thank You for the suggestion Barry.

    But it did not work.

Downloaded and installed the suggested file to root of a usb stick and tried to update as per instructions... it went to update 52 I think, then said end on display.. but still says 'E4' on cold reboot.

It does make me ask myself the question tho. Brand new piece of kit. loses all my programs after 7 months. - my background is PC's. Either I am very unlucky, or this is a liability, not an asset, and I know what my experience is currently telling me.

I suppose PC's never fail...sorry I had to add this.

Anything electro/mechanical can fail from day 1.

Did you take up the 2 year warranty.

Been buying computers since 1981, and with hdd since mid to late 80's. Aye they can fail from day 1, but adequately specced and ventilated, its rare for one to work for 7 months and then fail. The unit is not even moderately used, so its not exactly been overworked.
Yes I took out the 2 year warranty, but that is academic in this case, as it is not even 8 months old, so is still within original 12 month warranty. Aah well, perhaps the replacement will fail in another 7 months, then I get to try out the 2 year warranty
I am assuming it is the hdd which has failed ofc, as I still do not know what the error code actually means. Does anyone know what Humax policy is on replacement, ie will replacement unit be new or a second hand one ?
